On
Sunday, Nasa announced the winners of its 3D-printed space habitat challenge at
the New York Maker Faire, a competition to help humans live on Mars. The Bubble
Base is an inflatable structure to be filled with Martian sand. Quartz-rich
sand particles are sintered into bricks by a swarm of drones who transport and
affix the blocks to their appointed locations within the dome. The design won
an honourable mention.
